For me, art is my way of releasing my emotions and energy. I like to convey a message through my work, for example my work on mental health, however when that’s not possible, for example when looking at landscapes, I focus on creating as much energy in the piece and making it as dynamic as possible. Watercolours and chalk pastels are what I work in most regularly, although I do enjoy experimenting with different mediums and techniques like print making. I love the freedom watercolour gives you and for me my most successful work comes from letting the watercolours run freely and naturally, rather than forcing them. The pieces of work I have submitted are in chalk, charcoal and acrylic. The landscapes show a more abstract style with every mark considered and focussing on the making of the piece. The charcoal piece is my most abstract, looking at creating negative space and dramatic contrast to suggest a dark forest and pathway.
