South Lakes artist Mandy Allan works in soft pastels and charcoal, creating striking wildlife art as well as people and pet portraiture.
Mandy studied Visual art at Bolton University focusing mainly on figurative drawing but discovered a love of pastels and portraiture whilst living in Germany from 2009 until 2014, then relocating to the Lake District, where British wildlife has inspired many more pastel drawings and will no doubt continue to do so. She uses colour block backgrounds to contrast the detail and expression of faces, bringing them to life. With a passion for photography, Mandy uses her own photographs where possible, sourcing wildlife and farms in and around the Lake District. It is important to her that farms and breeds are acknowledged in the titles of her work, supporting them and their role in British heritage.
She is also extremely proud to have been involved in the charity Go Herdwick art trail and auction for the Calvert Trust in summer 2016, with her design “Parker” raising £20,000 for the charity.
