I create sculptures of animals, sometimes ships, and landscape paintings. All my work is a meditation on mortality. The sculptures resemble archaeology in weathered appearance, and in their many layers of meaning.  Whatever the concept the physicality of materials and of making is always vital.  Recently I extended the animal theme to focus on horseman. Man and Horse is an ancient archetypal image; these are cavalry from the First World War, ghostly figures from the past. The paintings are intentionally ambiguous; they could be wilderness, or liminal places close to home, or the sites of forgotten conflict.
