Rosie Wates creates in paintings and theatre boxes mysterious spaces where dramas are played out. Her work moves between the abstract and the figurative. Stories told, places visited and imagined, memories lost in time, dreams of futures barely glimpsed, sign and symbol. There is always a joy in the materials used: paint in rich colours, the glimmer of gold, the sharp delineations of graphic marks and mirrored forms; and the excitement of the push pull of the process, seeking to capture and hold these transient shadows.
