I am primarily a painter
I studied painting & drawing at Liverpool College of Art and subsequently qualified as a teacher.
My paintings and hand knitting have been shown in galleries in England, Ireland and Scotland and I have work in public and private collections in UK, Europe and USA.
My paintings derive from the landscape around me, arising from walks in all seasons. I move from a ‘representational’ starting point, in ways of working in which the act of putting pigment on a surface may produce the effect of heightening the response of the spectator to the qualities of colour, pattern and texture. A combination of observed and remembered images and ideas informs my work, which consists of paintings in oil on board & canvas, plus sketchbook watercolour studies, photographs & notes.
