My work is mostly an exploration of texture which incorporates many different themes like underwater decay, fabric manipulation and urban environments. I was interested in the way that natural elements changed the surfaces of materials, particularly the materials found underwater and in city environments. My acrylic painting of New York shows the objects I found on a trip to the city, and I chose to recreate them in calico whist creating texture through the use of paint. I made the ends of the painting ripped and textured to emulate and represent the busy atmosphere I experienced in New York. I made a calico sample of smocked fabric and I chose to draw this to explore the way that textures can be depicted through ball point pen and my drawing skills were further expanded through my drawing of wood after being decayed from the sea.
